Don’t Wander Aimlessly, Discover Your Identity

Day after day comes and goes sometimes without thought. Ever feel like you are wandering aimlessly? When you put thought into who you are and who you want to become you can confidently start on a new course with clear direction in mind.

Experts agree that having a strong sense of identity eases anxiety and stress and provides solid direction in life and for life. So, my question for you is, who are you and where are you going? Do you know how to get there? You have dreams and goals, but is the path you’re taking going to bring you to the place you REALLY want to be in life?

Affirming “I am” Statements Answer the Question of Identity

If you know me, you know I’m ALL about confidence, but here’s the thing; my confidence doesn’t come from what I’ve done or who I am, but from whose I am. You see, as a Christian, I am a daughter of the King of kings and Lord of lords. There are hundreds of verses in the bible that talk about our new identity as a believer. A bible teacher I know likes to call these round up of verses our “Welcome to the Kingdom” package.

The truth I’m about to share with you completely and totally wrecked me! I’ve NEVER been the same since! It’s literally been a change of biblical proportions! The fire inside has been lit and is STILL burning bright! I have confidence now that I NEVER had before! Let’s take a look at some of the BIBLICAL affirmations straight from the Word of God that will change your life:

  • I am Christ’s friend John  15:15
  • I have been justified before God by the blood of Christ  Rom 5:1
  • I have direct access to God through the Holy Spirit  Eph 2:18
  • I am complete in Christ  Col 2:10
  • I have been redeemed and forgiven of ALL my sins  Col 1:14
  • I am free from condemnation  Rom 1:17
  • I am seated in the heavenly realms with Christ Jesus  Eph 2:6

Did you catch all that? Empowering right? I took those verses and (there’s plenty more) and put them up against this verse, Num. 23:19 “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent; hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” If God doesn’t lie, then ALL of these verses are true. They are true for me and true for you. So I did a thing. I took a leap of faith and began to take God at His Word and believe what He says about me.

 Positive Affirmations Are NOT Enough

Positive affirmations are great, but they DO NOT carry the weight or the authority to bring life; only the Word of the Lord can do that! His Word is the solid ground upon which you and I can stand and that Word WILL NOT fail you!

God says in Isa 55:11 “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” This is why basing your identity on Christ and what He says about you makes ALL the difference.

I Can Be True to Myself Because I Know My Identity in Him

Can you see why they call this the “Welcome to the Kingdom package?” It is so grand! James 1:17 says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” When you trust God and take Him at His Word, you are standing on solid ground.

I learned all of this goodness about our identity in Christ when I had reached the lowest point I’ve ever faced in my life. In reaching out for help, a friend told me about a book. I read it cover to cover. I devoured it. I studied it, and double-checked every scripture given in the Who I am in Christ section. I spent time reading the verses given, and even read the ones that came before and after!

Two weeks went by and I began to see a change. I was happy again. I became more confident. I didn’t have to force a smile. The fear had dropped significantly, I mean significantly! People even started to ask me what happened to me!

Two months later I was teaching a class on it this very topic to our local women’s group! Talk about transformational!! The truth of our identity in Christ was THE key that unlocked every chain that had me bound, and it can and will do the same for you“It was for freedom that Christ set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Gal. 5:1
